SFIC INSTITUTE SFIC's Design Thinking Workshop:
Transforming Furniture Industry

Business Design
Design Thinking
SFIC INSTITUTE

{ Project Overview }

We partnered with SFIC Institute and Workforce Singapore to help transform the furniture industry through design thinking and business innovation.

Creativeans developed and conducts SFIC’s Design Thinking Business Transformation Programme for the furniture industry. The programme guides companies through design thinking methodologies to create and enhance products, services, business processes, and business models.

Since the onset of COVID-19, the programme has supported over 40 furniture companies in innovating and adapting to an ever-changing world. Through this initiative, participants are empowered to rethink their businesses, uncover new opportunities, and build stronger foundations for transformation.

{ Creative Challenge }

Furniture companies needed to innovate their business and service models in a rapidly changing environment
  1. 01

    Furniture industry players lacked the tools and mindset to creatively adapt their offerings, processes, and business models

  2. 02

    A traditional approach to business limited their ability to respond to evolving customer expectations and market disruption

  3. 03

    There was no structured methodology to guide companies in applying design thinking to transform customer experience and job design

  4. 04

    Businesses needed practical training and tailored tools to ideate and test new strategies effectively

{ The Solution }

Launched a hands-on design thinking transformation programme tailored to furniture enterprises
  1. Collaborated with SFIC Institute and Workforce Singapore to co-develop the Design Thinking Business Transformation Programme for the furniture sector

  2. Delivered customized design thinking workshops—based on Creativeans’ EDIT Design Thinking® (Empathise, Define, Ideate, Test)—to equip companies with creative problem-solving frameworks

  3. Provided ongoing one-on-one mentorship and capstone project guidance to apply new business models and customer experience strategies in real-world scenarios

  4. Helped over 40 furniture companies innovate in product, service, and operational design, enabling them to adapt effectively amid change

{ Creativeans EDIT Design Thinking }

We guided furniture companies through Creativeans’ EDIT Design Thinking® methodology to help them rethink business models, customer experiences, and innovation opportunities.

The programme begins with a customised design thinking workshop that introduces participants to key design tools and our EDIT Design Thinking® methodology: Empathise, Define, Ideate, and Test. Through this process, businesses learn how each part of their business model affects consumers, brand experience, and overall value creation.

Participants then move through the four quadrants of the methodology before continuing into one-on-one consultations over the following weeks. They also work on a capstone project to consolidate their learning and apply it to new business models, product ideas, and service innovations.

SFIC INSTITUTE

{ Design Thinking Workshop }

We facilitated a one-day design thinking workshop to help businesses understand core design concepts and apply them to real business challenges.

Led by Creativeans’ certified trainers, the workshop introduced participants to basic design thinking principles and how these can be used to improve business thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. Businesses also explored customised tools developed by Creativeans to support idea generation and validation.

One of the key tools introduced was the Idea Dice Tool Kit, designed to guide teams through ideation and the design thinking process. The workshop also gave participants the opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and learn from one another through shared discussion and interaction.

{ In-Depth Consultations and Mentoring }

We provided in-depth consultations and mentoring to help furniture businesses apply design thinking directly to their transformation plans.

In the sessions that followed, business owners and employees learned more design thinking practices to support the transformation of customer experience and job redesign. These sessions helped participants connect the methodology to practical changes within their own businesses.

Key takeaways included understanding customer insights through user journey mapping, crafting value proposition statements, and applying ideation and job redesign techniques. The programme concluded with final presentations, where participants shared how they implemented their projects using the knowledge gained throughout the course.

“There are a lot of things I have learnt from this design thinking programme. It helps a lot not only in perspective, but also how to go forward in terms of direction, which is also very important.”
