SINGAPORE DESIGN WEEK 2024:
COEXSISTENCE BY DESIGN

Branding

{ Project Overview }

Creating meaningful experiences that explore how design can support better coexistence between humans and nature.

In conjunction with Singapore Design Week 2024 and in collaboration with the Jane Goodall Institute (Singapore), we launched the Coexistence by Design programme. The programme featured a Guided Nature Walk, a Panel Discussion, and a Kokedama Design Workshop.

Through these experiences, participants engaged with experts from various fields and explored the relationship between design, sustainability, and the natural environment. The programme demonstrated how thoughtful design can contribute to a more harmonious and sustainable future for both people and nature.

{ Creative Challenge }

No platform to engage design professionals directly with conservation themes in meaningful ways
  1. 01

    The Jane Goodall Institute (Singapore) and Creativeans faced the challenge of introducing conservation to an introspective design-focused audience that had not previously engaged deeply with such themes

  2. 02

    The initiative needed to move beyond traditional conservation outreach and create authentic, immersive touchpoints for designers—who might literally need to get their shoes wet

  3. 03

    Without experiential and narrative-rich programming the scale of wildlife conservation could feel abstract or distant to a creative demographic

  4. 04

    There was no existing framework to connect design thinking with ecological systems in a way that felt tangible and relevant

{ The Solution }

Created a series of experiential and educational touchpoints to bring conservation alive for designers
  1. Created Coexistence by Design as the central concept, anchored by three key physical activations: a guided nature walk, a panel discussion, and a Kokedama plant-making workshop

  2. Designed and developed a dedicated website to serve as the main information hub and ticketing point for the programme

  3. Produced social media assets to raise awareness, encourage participation, and sustain engagement throughout the event

  4. Designed large-format communication touchpoints such as billboards and public posters to extend reach beyond the design community

  5. Applied consistent branding and messaging across all digital and physical materials to strengthen recall and connect with diverse audiences

  6. Directed ticket proceeds towards the Jane Goodall Institute Singapore, reinforcing the link between participation and conservation impact

{ GUIDED NATURE WALK }

Discovering how thoughtful planning enables urban life and nature to thrive together.

The guided nature walk at Dairy Farm Nature Park invited participants to explore how people can live more harmoniously with nature. Beyond its scenic landscape, the park demonstrates how careful planning supports a rich diversity of flora and fauna.

Throughout the walk, participants discovered different ways to engage with environmental advocacy and gained a deeper appreciation of Singapore’s natural ecosystems. The experience highlighted the role of intentional design in creating spaces where urban development and the natural environment can coexist.

{ { PANEL DISCUSSION } }

Bringing diverse perspectives together to explore a more harmonious relationship between people, wildlife, and nature.

Held at the National Library, the panel discussion brought participants together with leading voices in environmental stewardship and design. The conversation explored nature conservation, wildlife, alternative food sources, and urban and environmental design.

The panellists shared expert perspectives on how Singapore can foster greater harmony between humans, wildlife, and the wider ecosystem. The discussion highlighted the importance of collaboration and thoughtful design in shaping a more sustainable future.

{ { KOKEDAMA DESIGN WORKSHOPS } }

Turning nature into a hands-on design experience that encourages creativity, care, and environmental awareness.

The Kokedama Design Workshops introduced participants to the Japanese art of growing plants in compact, moss-covered soil spheres. Through the guided session, participants learned how natural materials can be thoughtfully shaped into living design objects.

The workshop encouraged participants to slow down, work with their hands, and develop a closer appreciation of plants and natural ecosystems. By combining craft, design, and nature, the experience demonstrated how small creative actions can inspire more mindful and sustainable ways of living.

“I have to say that this has been our very best partnership ever. Thank you so so much. Really appreciate team creativeans.”
