Large agency or boutique consultancy? An honest comparison of what each does better, what to ask before choosing, and which Singapore firms to consider.
If you are planning a branding project in Singapore, the choice usually comes down to a large agency or network shop, or a boutique consultancy. Large agencies bring scale, multi-market reach and broad service lines. Boutique consultancies bring senior people doing the actual work, faster decisions and lower overheads. Neither is better in general. The right answer depends on the size of the project, how much senior attention you need, and whether you need coverage across many markets at once.

Boutique consultancies worth considering in Singapore
Singapore has a strong independent sector. Tangible works research-led and treats brand as a management tool. Bravo focuses on category-defining brands with cultural depth. Etereo works across branding and digital marketing. Vantage Branding specialises in corporate branding and packaging for FMCG and retail. Creativeans works across brand strategy, packaging, UI/UX and experience design, from Singapore and Jakarta.
The list is not exhaustive and these firms are not interchangeable. Shortlist on the basis of work done in situations like yours, not on the size of the firm.
What to ask before you choose
Ask who will actually do the work, by name, and how much of their time you get. This is the single biggest practical difference between a large agency and a boutique.
Ask whether their consultants are accredited, and ask for the certificate number rather than the word. In Singapore, management consulting is a certified profession assessed against SS 680:2021, and accreditation matters if any part of your project may be grant-supported.
Ask for work in a comparable situation, not a portfolio of attractive logos. Ask what the brief was and what changed as a result.
Ask how they handle other markets, if you have them. Some boutiques have genuine regional footprints, others partner or subcontract.
Where Creativeans fits
We are a boutique consultancy with a regional footprint, working from Singapore and Jakarta since 2012. Both founders are accredited: Managing Director Kimming Yap holds RMC-10276 and co-founder Yulia Saksen holds CMC-0137, the international designation. Both are listed on the IMCS public register.
We are not the cheapest, and we are not the right choice for a large multi-market rollout needing dozens of people at once. We are a good fit when you want senior people on the work and a brand system that holds up across markets.
